The west coast of Ireland has always been one of my favourite places on Earth - there's something about its rugged coastline that stirs the imagination, inspires creativity and rebirth. This is where some of Irelands greatest poets, painters and musicians come from (think Yeats, Sharon Shannon, Martin Hayes) and its no coincidence. I dare you to visit and tell me you don't come home a new man or woman. So when i heard about the Cliffs of Moher Retreat, set in Co. Clare's Liscannor village, i thought 'Of Course!'. What a perfect location for spending some 'Me Time'.
I've visited many times as a child with my family to little villages in Co. Clare like Lahinch, all six of us squished into a mobile home, spending our days daring each other to brave swimming in the Atlantic, collecting shells and cockles and exploring the sand dunes of Doonbeg. As an adult i was back for surfing trips with my best friends. Four or five girls packed into a car, driving down from Dublin for a much needed release from the humdrum of Dublin. Two days later we'd be heading back to Dublin feeling something magical had changed in all of us, we'd grown closer as friends, we'd discovered our balance on surfboards and balance within our souls too. We loved the place so much we'd be driving home in wet bikinis straight out of the surf, ocean soaked hair and sand everywhere. It was utter bliss! So why not now take a Yoga Retreat?
The Retreats at Cliffs of Moher cover everything from Yoga to Meditation, from Nutrition to Hiking and pull in some of the most renowned Yoga Teachers and Wellness experts in Ireland to lead each one. Upcoming retreats include;
Retreats are held throughout the year and range from a one day retreat to weekends or even on occasion a full week immersion retreat. Overnight retreats include accommodation in one of several lovely rooms at the venue all with their own personality and delicious vegetarian or vegan cuisine for breakfast and dinner. And if that doesn't sound tempting enough you can relax after dinner with a soak in their relaxing hot tub. I read this and thought, sign me up!
This weekend I'm off to the Cliffs of Moher Retreat for their Spring Retreat which includes morning meditation, morning and evening Yoga classes and even a 'silent hike'. I'll be keeping you posted across all of our Social media channels throughout the weekend so stay tuned for the inside scoop. And post-retreat i'll give you a full run down on how the weekend went so be sure to check back in with us
The Cliffs of Moher Retreat is set right on the edge of the famous Cliffs with views out across the Atlantic Sea - next stop America. To any Irish person, we understand the meaning of the Atlantic to our very recent ancestors. For many, it meant a new life, it meant opportunity, it meant hope. And so its very fitting that you can sit in a room spending 'Me Time' during a retreat with these ideas resonating throughout the weekend.
The Cliffs of Moher themselves are a jaw-dropping site. And there are lots of little towns and villages to visit during your downtime during the retreats. The beaches of Doonbeg are famous for their surfing and golf course, and of course Donald Trump now owns the hotel here. You can join a local surf school for some surfing lessons by popping into any of the surf shops in Lahinch village. And just enquire at the hotel if you fancy a game of golf.
