We all want to be happy, positive and in a general good mood, but sometimes as a result of the trials and tribulations of life, that can not always be the case. Work can get on top of us, a loved one or friend might be annoying us, what ever the case, we all need a little ‘pick me up’ sometimes.

5 ways to brighten your mood

So we have complied a list below of five ways to help you get into a good mood:

1. Drink plenty of water and green tea. Green tea comes packed with plenty of antioxidants and nutrients which will improve your brain function and can help with ageing. Staying hydrated with water increases you energy and at the same time can make you feel less tired. It also flushes out toxins and maintains regularity within.

2. Do a good deed. People who help other people through doing one simple good deed, volunteering at a charity, shelter or animal rescue centre are likely to be happier. Knowing that you have helped someone have a better day, even if it is just as simple as paying for the next person’s bus ticket can completely alter your day and put you in a good mood and it will also increase your empathy and help you appreciate all the good things you have in your life.

3. Look at old photo albums or videos. Looking through past happy memories will give you an ease and calmness and sense of self that is hard to get elsewhere. it will remind you of how you felt in that moment and how lucky you were to be part of that moment.

4. Keep a happiness journal. Get a note book, spend sometime in the shop picking out the one that strikes you the most and you feel some positivity from just looking at it, then at the end of every evening, start writing down the date and three things that mad you happy that day, even print off pictures and stick them too it also. Within in a few weeks if you are having a bad day, looking over your entries will make you smile.

5. Have a laugh. A laugh a day keeps the doctor at bay. Find a way to laugh, be it meeting up with a funny friend or watching some funny Youtube videos. Laughing increases the flow of oxygen through our bodies and calms our stress response systems, giving us a more relaxed and positive feeling.
