We asked our friend Geeta Sidhu-Robb, registered food chef, health practitioner and Founder of NoshDetox, about the importance of including Vitamin D in your diet, and what the alternatives are if you need a Vitamin D boost. The British Medical Journal recently released a report that says foods should be fortified with Vitamin D as its vital for our health. Read what Geeta has to say.....

On the Vitamin D report, Geeta Sidhu-Robb, Founder of Nosh Detox said:

“I entirely support the information published in the British Medical Journal which argues that food should be fortified with Vitamin D – particularly during the winter months when many people in the UK are low on Vitamin D as we are not exposed to as much sunlight as we are during the summer months. It’s encouraging to see that several countries such as the US have taken this approach to help tackle vitamin D deficiency by fortifying their milk which has been stated to help provide a ‘continuous, steady, low-level intake of Vitamin D’; of which over time helps eliminate Vitamin D deficiency across the population.

The UK Government recommends an average daily intake of 10 micrograms; however, realistically we cannot expect the entire population across the UK to take vitamin D supplements on a regular basis, so by having foods fortified with Vitamin D or by introducing higher amounts of Vitamin D into our lifestyles in more ways, we can help ensure that the population are reaching the daily recommended intake.

Vitamin D’s formation requires more participation from the body than any other vitamin does and has a profound effect on our moods and how we feel; this is the reason as to why it’s commonly linked to SAD throughout the winter. Intravenous nutrition is one of the most effective methods of feeding vitamins, minerals and other natural substances directly into the bloodstream. Bypassing the digestive system means that far higher levels of absorption are achieved and an immediate therapeutic response can be seen as nutrient deficiencies are corrected within minutes”
