The Waldhaus Flims Alpine Grand Hotel & Spa has just re-opened after a renovation costing in excess of CHF40 million (approx. £33million).

This historic mountain retreat is located in the town of Flims, approximately 140km from Zurich in the heart of the Swiss Alps.

Waldhaus Flims is located on the largest hotel owned park in Switzerland and comprises the 5 star Grand Hotel along with two additional luxury guest houses, 4 star superior Villa Silvana and 4 star Chalet Belmont. Renovation work began in August 2016 and has seen a complete redesign of all the bedrooms and public spaces in the Grand Hotel and Villa Silvana.

One of the hotels most renowned features is its 2,800sqm Waldhaus spa, which has also had a complete refurbishment with the addition of one new private day spa suites.

The Waldhaus spa includes a vast indoor and outdoor swimming pool, sauna, steam room, treatment rooms and new fitness studio (with daily classes) in addition to the spa’s most unique feature, a natural outdoor swimming lake, fed directly from the mountains spring water.

The renovation work has carefully combined the inviting charm and historic character of the Belle Epoque-Grandezza and the Art Nouveau Pavilion, with the highest standard furnishings, state of the art technology and facilities. The hotels 4 restaurants have also had a complete refurbishment, with the addition of the new après ski bar “The Summit”, with deep set sofas and a floating fireplace.

Guests can choose between “The Grand”, a new international gastro restaurant, located in the Grand Hotel, or “Epoca” for a feast of the eyes and stomach. Guests can expect some of the region’s most exquisite specialities, whilst enjoying spectacular views through the floor to ceiling windows. For more comforting food, guests can head to Ristorante Pomodoro for traditional Italian classics or “Il Tschaler” in the Grand Hotel’s vaulted cellar to sample some of the region’s finest cheeses in fondues and raclettes.

In total, the Waldhaus Flims Alpine Grand Hotel & Spa offers 142 rooms, 76 of which are in the Grand Hotel, including the impressive 250m2 Presidential Suite. Comprising 2 en-suite bedrooms, a large kitchen and dining room, cinema room, large open fire place, glass ceilinged indoor garden and a vast wrap around balcony with views across the Surselva Mountains. Whilst Villa Silvana offers an additional 34 rooms including their Clerezza Suite at 220m2.
